Visual Merchandising

I attended a talk about a graduate with an MA in Textiles who had become a visual merchandiser for Urban Outfitters.

She talked to us about the role of the VM and the skills needed such as an eye for colour, texture and spacing on the shopfloor. The hours are long and you must be able to manage your time well and keep the standard of the shop at a high level.
The link provides more information about the types of skills needed and the job descriptions for a VM.

I discussed with her how she got the job and she talked about the importance of work experience in a high end high street retailer.

Experience in visual merchandising and personal shopping on the shop floor is something I must gain experience in.
